FAQ

Choosing a GREAT reference image:

  • Photo should have an obvious light source (good sense of light and dark) Multiple photo references should have a consistent light source. Natural lighting is wonderful.

  • High resolution and good clarity. The higher quality photo, the more accurate the interpretation.

  • Avoid cluttered photos. (unless that is part of the charm of the image)

  • Avoid photos that have been altered.

  • Avoid images with a copyright. I will not be able to complete your request unless you have written consent from the photographer.

  • I prefer painting candid photos or snapshots, facial expressions tend to be more authentic.

How do I choose a Finish?

   You have 2 options:

  • Oil Varnish. This is the most common way to protect your painting from things like, temperature, humidity and light. It gives a glossy finish and really brings out the contrast of a painting. This is a great option but a longer wait. It takes an oil painting 6 months to cure before a varnish can be safely applied and then can take up to a week to dry before shipping. (I am researching a faster option)

  • Another option is to leave it as is. I prefer a matte finish to my personal paintings and the paintings I did 20 years ago, look the same as the ones I did last week. I would feel comfortable shipping these paintings after 4 weeks of curing- but would ask that you keep the surface from touching anything for 6 months. An easy way is to hang it up right away! If you are in my area (Twin Cities, MN), I can get it to you sooner.
